Now is not the time for the attention of the media to turn away from Egypt

Two unwanted, despised and unelected war criminal ex-Presidents.

Mubarak, seen for years as a puppet of the American military has finally gone after playing the weirdest of will he / won’t he games with the watching World.

The removal of Republican war criminals and terrorists from the Whitehouse allowed those fighting for democracy in the Middle East to make that final push. The religious crazies and Neo-Con loons who infect that once great Republican Party like a cancer, (now more so than ever), lost their ability to use any resultant “crisis” to take over those parts of the World rich with minerals and oil, while flattening their cities and doing everything to keep their terror funding, torture loving and most importantly friends of their administration in power.

After eight years of Republican terrorism in the Middle East, euphemistically called “the war on terror”, there was no progress towards democracy in Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria or Saudi Arabia. Now the calls for democracy are being heard loudly and widely.

President Obama let it be known that America, under his watch would be a friend of democracy, should they the people want it. America was no longer going to stand in their way.

A year and a bit after President Obama told the Egyptians to stand up for themselves, they did. He told Cairo and the rest of the Middle East, that if they want freedom they must demand it and fight for it. America was not going to get in the way of that fight.

America does not presume to know what is best for everyone, just as we would not presume to pick the outcome of a peaceful election. But I do have an unyielding belief that all people yearn for certain things: the ability to speak your mind and have a say in how you are governed; confidence in the rule of law and the equal administration of justice; government that is transparent and doesn’t steal from the people; the freedom to live as you choose. These are not just American ideas; they are human rights. And that is why we will support them everywhere.

This does not mean that President Obama is directly responsible for what happened in Egypt. The people of Egypt can take the credit for that. They, with the knowledge that the rest of the World is watching need to make sure that the new Military government is only a temporary one.

So to keep up with this moment of history here are some great twitter feeds direct from Cairo.
