Court forces British Government to reveal documents detailing their complicity in torture.

Mr Davey said the High Court decision to reject David Miliband’s appeal to keep documents relating to the alleged torture of Binyam Mohamed secret raised “serious questions” about the government’s complicity in torture.
He said the ruling was a “massive defeat for the government and the Foreign Secretary and a victory for open government and the judiciary.”
Mr Davey claimed the previously redacted parts of the documents suggested that British secret services knew that Americans were torturing Binyam Mohamed.
“We want to know which minister knew about this and what they did about it,” he added.

The judgement continued: “We regret to have to include that the reports provided to the security service made clear to anyone reading them that BM was being subjected to the treatment that we have described and the effect upon him of that intentional treatment.
“The treatment reported, if it had been administered on behalf of the United Kingdom would clearly have been in breach of…(the ban on torture).
“Although it is not necessary for us to categorise the treatment reported, it could be readily contended to be at the very least cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment of BM by the United States authorities.”
