Heads Did Roll. What a Remarkable Contrast to Britain.

As British MPs worry more about their “security” and the “theft” of disc containing their expenses, than the MPs involved in defrauding the taxpayer, it is refreshing to see how people who cause a public outrage in the administration of President Barack Obama actually do fall on their sword.

On April 27 2009, a VC25 (a specially constructed Boeing 747) was used for a “photo-opp”. The flight caused panic in New York.

The resulting photo is quite cool though. It could have been done on photoshop (it would have been better actually).

When the President heard about this, he was reportedly furious. He called for an enquiry. The results of that enquiry are out and are quite stinging.

In the UK – this would be it. After of course losing the results of the report on disc. No heads would roll. All would be ok. This however is the US and Barack Obama is President.

The guy at the top, not the little guy as in the UK, Louis Caldera, Director of the White House Military Office, has resigned his post.

Dear Mr. President:
I have concluded that the controversy surrounding the Presidential Airlift Group’s aerial photo shoot over New York City has made it impossible for me to effectively lead the White House Military Office. Moreover, it has become a distraction to the important work you are doing as President. After much reflection, I believe it is incumbent on me to tender my resignation and step down as Director of the White House Military Office.

Honesty. People prepared to fall on their sword when they screw up. Wow. Can we ever return to that?
